An Illinois woman was killed in a horrific hit-and-run tractor-trailer crash in northwest Indiana. According to the police report, at 10:45 a.m, a 30-year-old woman pulled her 2014 Chevrolet Suburban over on the shoulder of southbound I-65 near the Fair Oaks exit in Jasper County. Family members inside the car said she was checking a noise coming from the vehicle. When she exited the vehicle on the driver’s side, a southbound tractor-trailer struck her. She was killed instantly, according to police. The victim’s mother and two children were inside the SUV at the time of the crash.
Police say the tractor-trailer did not stop and continued southbound. Witnesses say the semi was a gray Freightliner pulling a gray enclosed box trailer and was an older model. According to authorities, the SUV was pulled well off the side of the road, and the semi must have veered out of the lane to strike her. Authorities also report her vehicle was not damaged. Police are looking for the driver of the tractor-trailer and urge anyone with information to please call SP Lowell District.
