An announcement was released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service on Monday declaring the recall of Lunchables, produced by Kraft Heinz Company. The company is recalling about 1,000 pounds of this product, particularly the “Ham and American Cracker Stackers” Lunchables because the label did not identify wheat and soy as ingredients. No harmful reactions to the product have been reported thus far.
Last year alone the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service reportedly recalled around 600 food products. Additionally, food allergies affect about 15 million Americans. Food products can potentially be deadly if consumed by someone who is allergic to an ingredient that is not properly labeled, and that is why it is of the utmost importance that companies specify exactly what is used to make their products. Consumer protection laws are made specifically for consumers in the case that a manufacturer is negligent and causes their consumers harm.
