A fatal accident occurred on Deerfoot Trail on Friday around 7:45 in the morning. The accident occurred when the driver of a silver 2005 Honda Accord drove off of the road towards the median, where the vehicle collided with the cemented bottom of a sign post. Tragically, the driver had been transported to a health center where he passed away. The police believe that speeding may have been a factor involved in the cause of the accident.
Speeding is among the top three factors that cause vehicle accidents, along with distracted driving and driving while under the influence. Also, speeding is a factor in one out of every three fatal vehicle accidents. Additionally, about 13,000 people pass away annually because of speeding. Speeding is also a very dangerous action because it can lead to other risk behaviors and acts of recklessness that jeopardize the safety of the roads. In order to ensure the safety of yourself and others, do not drive over the speed limit.
