A 2-year-old boy was found walking down a Tennessee street after he wandered out of a daycare center in what police are calling a potentially dangerous daycare accident. Algood Police say the accident happened on Wednesday around 9:30 a.m. when a witnesses called the station to report a 2-year-old boy walking down a road near train tracks. The witnesses say they were driving when they spotted the scared toddler running and crying along Main Street. Several others passing intervened and took the toddler back to the daycare which was nearby.
When the child was brought back to a Kid Kuntry daycare, staff members did not know he was missing. The Algood Police Chief arrived at the daycare and questioned its employees. The police determined that the toddler wandered off while on the playground and away from a distracted employee. When the officer did an inspection of the playground, he found a door unlocked. Police say they notify the Department of Children’s Services. A DCS spokesperson said the facility was already under inspection and a special investigations unit is looking into the incident. The incident has alarmed residents, and they hope changes will be made to provide better care for the children. Witnesses say a train came through shortly after the child was rescued and the incident could have been deadly. The toddler and his parents have not been identified. A statement has not been released from the daycare.
