Two men were injured in separate pedestrian accidents this week in Illinois. According to authorities, a pedestrian was struck in the 4200 block of the N. Belt West in Belleville. The accident occurred at approximately 8 p.m. on Monday evening. The victim sustained serious injury and was taken to a local hospital where he remains. His condition is unknown.
Hours later, a man was struck on Route 3 in Granite City Monday night around 10:30 p.m. Police say a vehicle struck the man near the Chain of Rocks Road and the victim died from his injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the vehicle stayed on the scene and talked to police. According to witnesses, an SUV and semi-truck had stopped following the incident, and it is unclear which one struck the pedestrian. Investigators worked the scene on Route 3, and it was closed for several hours.
Both pedestrian accidents are under investigation, and the victims’ names have not been released.
