A southwest Missouri firefighter has died when the vehicle he was a passenger in struck a tree. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the 19-year-old boy was killed when a driver of a pickup truck lost control and ran off a road, struck a tree and overturned. The single-vehicle crash happened Friday evening in Christian County. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the accident, and it is uncertain if alcohol or speeding played a role in the crash. The driver of the pickup truck survived the crash. The Springfield boy had just joined the Sparta Fire Protection District, following after his father and grandfather into the profession.
