A drunk driver struck and killed a 15-month-old boy in a horrific pedestrian accident last week in Los Angeles. According to officials, a 72-year-old woman struck a 15-year-old girl who was pushing a baby in a stroller near the intersection of Hawthorne Boulevard and 133th Street on Saturday afternoon. The Hawthorne Police Department
said emergency first responders found the young girl and the toddler lying near the crosswalk. Witnesses chased down the driver and blocked her from leaving the scene. Witnesses also claimed the teenager had the right-of-way as the driver plowed through the intersection. Officials say the teen suffered serious injuries but is in stable condition. The accident left the baby brain dead, according to his parents.
Hawthorne Police arrested the 72-year-old motorist at the scene of the crash. She faces charges of fleeing a scene of a hit-and-run and driving under the influence. Police say she is in custody, and her bail is set at $100,000.
The baby boy is the son of a popular MMA fighter. The toddler was found not breathing and without a pulse at the scene, according to first responders. The boy was resuscitated but declared brain dead several hours later. The family of the 15-month-old boy decided to donate his organs and removed him from life support on Sunday evening. The baby’s parents hope his organs will save the lives of other children in need and save parents from having to lose a child.
