A Collinsville High School student has died from injuries sustained in a school accident earlier this week. The freshman fell over a banister during school hours on September 19 and was airlifted to a nearby hospital. His family announced Thursday morning at approximately 9:30 a.m. that the teenage boy passed away. Police are investigating the accident but currently consider it a tragic accident.
Witness say the boy was on his way to lunch when he fell from the second-floor staircase banister. No other information has been released as to what led to the accident. Collinsville High School officials say they are reviewing the structure of the staircase for safety. The school has canceled a parade that was to take place later that day out of respect for the student and his family. The high school will honor the teenager at a football game on Friday night. They will also be collecting donations for the family.
