A young California woman was killed last week in a head-on crash in Ramona. According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred on Vista Ramona Road and E Old Julian Highway at approximately 4:30 p.m. last Monday. Officials say the eastbound driver of a Ford F-250 drifted into the westbound lanes and smashed into the 21-year-old woman. The young lady died instantly. There were two other passengers in the backseat of the truck, a 4-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl. The 5-year-old was taken to Palomar Hospital and the 4-year-old was airlifted to Rady Children's Hospital.
According to CHP investigators, the driver of the Ford pickup is suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. The driver has not been arrested at this time and charges are pending. CHP officials say a thorough investigation of the crash and the suspected driver is underway.
The family of the innocent victim killed in the crash says her life was stripped away. A cousin was on the phone with the woman at the time of the crash and says she was driving home from work at the Riviera Oaks Resort on a typical Monday afternoon. The fact that alcohol is suspected makes the tragedy weight even harder of the family. The family is asking that instead of flowers a donation to MADD is made in the victim's name.
