A lawsuit has been filed in Cape Girardeau against multiple individuals after a pregnant mother was killed in a car crash and her daughter was delivered last May. The lawsuit was filed by the victim’s sister, according to court documents. The court documents also reveal that the baby, who is now 7-months-old, suffered hypoxic brain trauma and is currently being treated at Children’s Hospital. The baby girl survived her mother’s death and was delivered by cesarean section.
According to court documents, the victim’s sister is suing the driver of the tractor-trailer involved in the accident, the trucking company, as well as the driver who was driving the victim. According to officials, neither of the two drivers who are mentioned in the lawsuit received traffic citations at the time of the crash. Family members say the victim had gone into labor and was en route to the hospital to give birth to her first child when the vehicle she was in was struck by the tractor-trailer, killing the pregnant mother. It was a miracle the unborn child survived the crash but is suffering traumatic brain injuries that could affect her the rest of her life.
