Experts are warning that pedestrian accidents in San Antonio and surrounding areas could be the highest in previous years for 2016. The police department reported that in 2015 there were a little over 884 pedestrian accidents but from January to September 2016 there were 683 reported accidents. A representative for the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization reported that the final numbers are not available, but there were more in 2016 than the previous year. She also reported that organization works closely with the city to improve their vision zero project. She said that to get the pedestrian accident number to zero, they need to fully understand what causes these accidents.
There are over 65,000 pedestrian injuries in the United States each year. This equates to one injury every couple of minutes. This is an alarming statistic for anyone who is alongside the road. Many Americans turn to walking, jogging, and biking for exercise and leisure. Anytime you are sharing, crossing or alongside the road; it is important to pay attention and abide by any road signs, crosswalks, and signals. Many times pedestrian accidents can be preventable if all parties are alert and not distracted. This means that both the vehicle driver and the pedestrian should be focused and not playing on phones, messing with radios or driving or walking impaired. Always contact a personal injury attorney if you or a loved one is injured in a pedestrian accident. An experienced attorney will analyze the details of your accident and determine if you have grounds to pursue legal action for your injuries.
