Firework Explosion Prompts OSHA Fine

|

A fireworks company is being fined by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration and will be responsible for paying almost $15,000 after an employee lost parts of her hands due to an explosion. The female victim was inserting a match fuse into the charge of the firework when it exploded and she lost a pinky finger on her right hand as well as all of her fingers on her left hand. The president of the company said that he agrees with OSHA’s finding and they will be working on a payment plan when the corrective actions outcome is released.

There were around 2.9 million nonfatal illnesses and workplace injuries that were reported in 2016. This is startling statistic for our workforce in the U.S. Employers have a responsibility to provide a safe workplace for their employees. They are also responsible for clearing and repairing any hazards that are reported by employees. Workplace injuries can range from a slip or fall to a severe or life threatening accident. These accidents can leave the victim with large medical expenses, lost wages, physical therapy needs and even possible home construction if the injuries are life altering. This can cause emotional stress on the victim. Always contact a personal injury attorney like Meyerkord & Kurth, LLC who specializes in work place injuries.
